Description

Exterior raised panel vinyl shutters replicate the form and appearance of the original wood design. Molded components are fastened together to form attractive, colorful, nearly maintenance-free outdoor shutters. Side stiles and horizontal rails surround a central elevated plateau, resulting in a structurally balanced window shutter.

Adding decorative vinyl shutters is a relatively quick and easy solution for fiscally responsible homeowners to add color, depth of field, and aesthetic interest to a home. Raised panel shutters are the second most frequently installed style and are easily identified. Ten profile options provide opportunity for existing lines or divisions continue through the shutter. 19 colors will match, blend or complement most modern and historical house plans.

Vinyl Shutter Hardware

ShutterLand supplies color-coordinated spikes or screws for installation of vinyl exterior shutters. Select the best method based on siding material. It is generally recommended to use shutter spikes in conjunction with all materials except for wood. This includes aluminum, vinyl, hardboard, brick, stucco, concrete and stone. Shutter spikes can also be used to secure to wood, but screws are preferred. Shutter screws are best to secure vinyl shutters to wood. Screws can be used with hard surfaces, such as brick, but then require wall anchors to properly adhere.

Construction of Vinyl Shutters

Standard exterior raised panel vinyl shutters are constructed from multiple components of durable polypropylene, heat welded and stapled tight together, and ready for installation when received. All decorative vinyl shutters have a molded wood grain surface texture and beaded detail, with a hollow open back that gains rigidity when affixed to the building.

A select number of common widths are offered to pair with custom shutter heights in one-quarter inch increments up to 97”. Sizes are nominal, and the actual width received may vary by 1/4 inch more or less than ordered. The actual height will be within 1/8 inch of the size ordered.

Vinyl Raised Panel Shutter Width Options

Single-wide vinyl shutters are fabricated with a single horizontal raised panel. Double-wide shutters incorporate a vertical sub-stile, creating left and right raised panel areas. Window shutters manufactured in a double-wide configuration can be up to 29” in width.

Choose from either a standard straight or eyebrow top rail. The straight top is appropriate for rectangular window openings, while the eyebrow top can be manufactured with a 1″, 2″, or 3″ drop on one side. This scale works for windows that incorporate a slight arch at the top of a rectangular bottom. Vinyl shutters are sold in pairs, with one for the left side and one for the right side of the window. The eyebrow option is only available for single wide shutters.

Select from ten unique profiles to conform to the window configuration or to give additional character. The #1 designation will indicate no divider rail with one raised panel from top to bottom. Options #2 – #10 allocate either one, two, or three divider rails in various locations. It is wise to assess the target window for existing horizontal divisions so the divider rails can align.

Raised Panel Vinyl Shutter Colors

19 standard outdoor colors coordinate well with both existing homes and new construction. Vinyl black shutters are definitely the most popular and widely utilized. Black shutters complement existing features of the house while remaining neutral in tone. White and grays work in a similar fashion to promote a unification of all components of the building.

Blue, brown and green shutters may garner greater prominence but also highlight the windows and draw attention to the front door. Red shutters are the ultimate accent and will catch the eye. Pre-colored shutters should not be painted. The “Paintable” designation is fabricated from Polystyrene and arrives ready to finish. Most major paint manufacturers have compiled collections of outdoor house colors that complement one another. We encourage you to find an arrangement that works best for your architecture style, geographic location and personal taste.

Vinyl Shutter Installation

Installation of vinyl shutters is usually a relatively quick weekend home improvement project. The lightweight panels easily lift into place and secure with either rust resistant metal screws or shutter spikes. Minimal tools and no previous experience is required for this do-it-yourself task.

We provide shutter spikes or screws, depending on your assessment of what is necessary in the process of measuring for vinyl shutters. Use “Shutter Screws” to attach to wood, vinyl, and other soft siding. “Shutter Spikes” adhere vinyl shutters to hard surfaces such as masonry, stucco, or hardboard. Both screws and spikes are color coordinated to match the specified shutter color. Vinyl shutters can only be installed in an immobile position and cannot be operable (swing open and closed with operable hardware).
