Description

PVC louver shutters outperform on every level, beginning with solid weatherproof construction and overall versatility. The PVC material is impervious to moisture, resulting in an extended life expectancy. The strength of PVC allows the shutters to be hinged with functional hinges or be attached in a stationary position.

Space between the 1.625″ wide louvers allows for air to pass and light and filter into the home when the shutters are closed. The louvers slightly overlap so the line of sight is interrupted when observing from a level position. Rabbeted stiles eliminate gaps above and below each bank of PVC louvers.

The time-honored design complies with most historic preservation building codes. A faux tilt bar can be added to further enhance the allure.

The components used to construct exterior PVC louver shutters are solid. With an impressive 1.25″ panel thickness, the PVC shutters will withstand extreme climate conditions.

Select DIY unfinished shutters or fully painted shutters in the color of your choosing to match existing trim or the front door.

Construction of PVC Louver Shutters

ShutterLand exterior PVC louver shutters are constructed to integrate with multiple architectural styles. The ability of PVC to withstand a variety of harsh climates is paramount. Stiles and rails are glued and screwed together for maximum strength. If moisture is ever able to make contact with the material, it is entirely repelled.

The louvers of PVC exterior shutters are 0.3125″ thick and 1.625″ wide. Each individual slat is slotted at a 27 degree angle into the side stiles and are suspended in between. They are each positioned on 1.3125″ centers, meaning that the louvers slightly overlap one another horizontally. This prevents direct vision through the shutter when observing from straight ahead. There is 0.25″ space in between adjacent louvers to allow for light and air to pass. The top, bottom and divider rails are rabbeted for the louvers to nest within and prevent gaps at those pivotal points.

Louvered PVC Shutter Colors

Premium PVC exterior window shutters can be ordered unfinished or fully painted. Unfinished shutters will require painting onsite, but do not require priming. Factory painted shutters arrive ready to install immediately after receipt.

Select from nine standard paint colors applied in the manufacturing process prior to shipping. These are the most popular exterior shutter paint color offerings from Benjamin Moore. Black shutters are the most frequently ordered, with Black Forest Green close behind. We also stock gray, brown, blue, red, and green. If one of the basic hues does not meet your requirements, you can provide the manufacturer name, color name, and color code for a custom match. There is a one-time fee per order of $200 for this service. Standard white or light-base colors require an additional $35 per shutter. The increased amount is needed because light-based colors are more difficult to apply than darker colors, and will be presented for approval before an order is processed.

Options for PVC Louvered Shutters

Modify your shutters with options available at the point of order entry.

The top profile specifies a straight or archtop. A majority of exterior window shutters have a straight, or flat, top. Specialty exterior shutters have an arch to match the contour of the archtop window. Provide the springline measurement to designate the drop of the arch.

A horizontal divider rail separates the louvers into two sections. A divider rail is optional on PVC louver shutters shorter than 90 inches. The divider rail can be located in the center of the shutter or at a custom location by providing a measurement from the bottom of the shutter to the center of the desired division. A second divider can be added to create three louver areas.

Choose a faux vertical tilt bar to increase the appearance of movable rotating louvers. The tilt bar is a narrow vertical PVC apparatus that interconnects the louvers. It is secured with small nails and industrial strength glue. Usually the tilt bar is attached to the shutter side with downward facing louvers. You will need to specify if it is necessary to modify the tilt bar to be fastened to the side with louvers pointing up. Most PVC louvered shutters are ordered without a faux tilt bar.

When PVC shutters are installed for functional use, the fixed louvers should orient down and away from the building when closed to direct water away from the window. Conversely, the louvers are positioned up when rotated to the side of the window. The shutters can be flipped if desired to install opposite of standard in a stationary location.

Louvered PVC shutters currently require about 4-5 weeks to manufacture. After the exterior shutters are complete, they will be shipped straight to the provided shipping address.

If you determine that louver PVC shutters are not exactly what you need, we do have alternative styles and materials. If price is the primary factor, we suggest our economy line of louvered shutters built from Southern Yellow Pine. For low maintenance and dependability, consider our louvered composite shutter. If you need a wider shutter, perhaps tropical Bahama shutters could be what you seek. Some homeowners like just a little more variety and find their solution with combination shutters.
