Description
Wood louvered shutters are easily the most popular, versatile and widely installed outdoor window accessory in America. ShutterLand exterior wood louvered shutters are meticulously crafted with hand-selected kiln dried lumber to ensure a long life of reliable service in both mild and extreme climate conditions. 1.5 inch thick stiles and rails are secured with 3 inch dowels, industrial-grade polyurethane exterior glue, and corrosion-resistant coated screws for exceptional durability. Side stiles are machine drilled with slots at regular intervals to accommodate equally spaced louvers in a fixed position. Space between the louvers promotes ventilation when the louvered wood shutters are closed.
Customize wood louvered shutters with an arch top or faux tilt bar to conform to historical requirements or window design. Select DIY unfinished shutters or fully painted shutters in the color of your choosing to match existing trim or the front door.

Construction of Louvered Wood Shutters
ShutterLand premium louvered wood shutters are constructed from three species; Red Grandis, Cedar, and Mahogany. Each wood has slightly different characteristics, yet all three result in the construction of high-quality durable exterior wood shutters. Red Grandis louvers may have a slightly rougher surface texture than other premium woods. Genuine solid wood results in the most historically accurate exterior shutter available. No other material can match the character and detail of authentic wood shutters with louvers.
Panels are an impressive 1 ½ inch thick, providing uncompromised stability. Sizes are sold in quarter inch increments for both width and height for the best possible fit. Wood louvered shutters can be installed with functional outdoor hardware or secured directly to the building. Operable shutters pivot from the side of the window to cover the opening. Closed functional exterior shutters installed on hinges can reduce outside light and create privacy. Space between louvers supports air transfer between indoor and outdoor areas. If installed in a stationary position, decorative louvered shutters will only serve an aesthetic purpose.

Louvered Wood Shutter Colors
Premium wood window shutters can be ordered unfinished, primed only, or fully painted. Unfinished wooden shutters are raw and will require sanding, priming, and final top coat paint. Factory primed shutters are shipped ready to accept paint after a light sanding. Factory painted shutters are ready to install immediately after receipt.
Select from nine standard paint colors applied in the manufacturing process prior to shipping. These colors are similar to the most popular offerings from Benjamin Moore. Black shutters are the most frequently ordered, with Black Forest Green close behind. We also stock gray, brown, blue, red, and green. If one of our basic hues does not meet your requirements, we can mix a custom color of your choosing. You just need to provide the manufacturer name, color name, and color code. There is a one-time fee per order of $200 for this service. White or light-base colors may require an additional $35 per shutter. The increased amount is needed because light-based colors are more difficult to apply than darker colors, and will be presented for approval before an order is processed.
Options for Wood Louvered Shutters
ShutterLand provides special features to conform to the contours or requirements of your windows. Arch top shutters simulate the lines of an arch top window. A horizontal divider rail separates the louvers into two sections. A second divider can be added to create three louver areas.
When wood shutters are installed to be functional, the fixed louvers should orient down and away from the building when closed to direct water away from the window. Conversely, the louvers are positioned up when rotated to the side of the window. The shutters can be flipped if it is desired to install opposite of standard in a stationary location.
Choose a faux vertical tilt bar to increase the appearance of movable rotating louvers. The tilt bar is a narrow vertical wood apparatus that interconnects the louvers. It is secured with small nails and wood glue. By default, the tilt bar is attached to the shutter side with downward facing louvers. You will need to specify if it is necessary to modify the tilt bar to be fastened to the side with louvers pointing up.
Unique New England style shutters can be fabricated with shutter horns or tails.
Louvered wood shutters currently require about 4-6 weeks to manufacture. After the window shutters are complete, they will be shipped straight to your front door.
If you determine that louvered wood shutters are not exactly what you need, we do have alternative styles and materials. If price is the primary factor, we suggest our economy line of louvered shutters built from Southern Yellow Pine. For low maintenance and dependability, consider our louvered composite shutter. If you need a wider louvered shutter, perhaps Bermuda shutters could be what you seek. Some homeowners like just a little more variety and find their solution with combination wood shutters.
