Composite Shutter Hardware

Composite shutters are shipped with Polycarbonate v-shaped fixed mounting brackets and for an easy and secure installation. The vertical side of the bracket attaches to the building and the perpendicular side screws to either the top or bottom of the shutter. The brackets extend the full width of the shutter and are not easily visible after installed. The brackets are the preferred method of installation but are not pre-attached.

Outside Composite Solid Panel Shutter Construction

Extira composite shutters are built for years of service. The material is specifically engineered for outdoor use, and is perfect for environments with a wide range of temperatures, varying humidity or harsh weather conditions. Extira does not expand and contract which prolongs the paint finish. The stiles and rails are 1.25 inch thick and defining center panel is 0.625 inch thick. Extira composite shutters have been installed on homes in all 50 states across America.

Configuration Options of Solid Panel Shutters

Solid Panel: This attractive exterior shaker shutter style is defined by the featured center solid panel. Choose from either a flat or grooved center panel. The flat panel is simple in composition with a modest, yet dignified, presence. A grooved panel conveys the illusion of vertical boards flanked by an elevated perimeter. Both variations of the outside sold panel shutters are popular throughout the United States.

Divider Rail: A divider rail separates the shutter into top and bottom panel areas. The divider looks much like the top rail and is an option for heights equal to or less than 70 inches. For window shutters in excess of 70 inches, the divider rail is required for added stability. The use of two divider rails results in three solid panel areas. The divider rail location can be centered or placed at a custom location by providing the measurement from the bottom of the shutter to the desired center of the divider.

Solid Panel Composite Shutter Finish Options & Paint Colors

Finish: Solid panel composite shutters are available unfinished, primed, or fully factory painted. Unfinished shutters need to primed and painted prior to installation. Primed shutters arrive ready to paint, while fully painted shutters can be immediately installed. ShutterLand has nine standard house paint colors that include black, gray, green, brown and red. For specialty colors outside of standard spectrum, we can match a custom paint for a one- time additional fee of $200 for the entire order. White or light-base colors may require an additional $35 per shutter. The increased amount is applied because light-based colors are more difficult to apply than darker colors, and will be presented for approval before an order is processed. Composite shutters cannot be stained.

How to Measure & Install Composite Solid Panel Shutters

Measuring: Ideally, exterior shutters should appear properly sized to close over the window opening. The shutters on either side of the window would then each measure half of the window width. The height of each shutter should be equal to the window height. If the solid panel shutters will not function (swing open and closed), the ordered shutter sizes are less critical. The method of installation will need to be taken into account when finalizing sizes.  Our composite shutter measuring page will help guide you through the process.

Installation: Outside solid panel composite shutters need to be installed in a stationary position. Fixed shutters are secured directly to the building in a permanent location with no intention of having them move. ShutterLand exterior composite shutters ship with clear polycarbonate installation brackets. The braces affix the shutters in a static location beside the window. A helpful composite shutter installation guide is provided to assist in the process.

Time: Composite groove and flat panel shutters require about 5-8 weeks to manufacture.  After construction is complete, the shutters will be shipped direct to the provided address.
