Durability & Longevity of Exterior Shutters

ShutterLand exterior shutters are designed and constructed to endure harsh climates. They all offer good resistance to intense sunlight, high humidity and extreme heat, as well as frigid temperatures.

PVC and aluminum shutters possess the most properties for ultimate resilience. They are both impervious to moisture, have little to no movement as seasons change, and project an extensive useful life. Aluminum shutters have the added benefit of being able to protect windows from hurricanes.

Composite shutters are crafted from Extira, a material engineered specifically for outdoor durability. These shutters are not only visually appealing but also highly resistant to moisture.

While vinyl shutters may feel lightweight or flexible, they’re surprisingly long-lasting. However, they can be vulnerable to damage in high winds or if struck by solid objects.

With proper maintenance, solid wood shutters can offer decades of service. They are beautifully crafted for hot and cold climates alike. It is important to periodically inspect the paint finish. If water makes contact with the raw material, the moisture will be absorbed and begin to deteriorate the shutter.

Economy wood shutters are crafted with the same techniques as the premium options. The wood used in construction, Southern Yellow Pine, can expand and contract more, compromising the finish more quickly.
